Is the French mobile phone cartel really a cartel?

International audience; France Telecom (FT), SFR and Bouygues Telecom (BT) have been fined by France's Conseil de la Concurrence (CC) for organizing a mobile phone cartel with stable market shares (one-half, one-third and one-sixth, respectively) and for directly exchanging commercial information. While not contesting the legal decision, it is argued here that the economic reasoning is flawed. Starting from a recent result on thermodynamic equilibrium of quantum systems, a connection between thermal properties, originating from Gibbs state probabilistic structure, and quantum correlations is discussed as a consequence of entanglement monogamy. As an example, a simple two-qubit system is analyzed, allowing for an expression of such a connection as an explicit function linking heat capacity to a measure of bipartite entanglement.

Dynamics of quantum discord of two coupled spin-1/2’s subjected to time-dependent magnetic fields

Abstract We describe the dynamics of quantum discord of two interacting spin-1/2’s subjected to controllable time-dependent magnetic fields. The exact time evolution of discord is given for various input mixed states consisting of classical mixtures of two Bell states. The quantum discord manifests a complex oscillatory behaviour in time and is compared with that of quantum entanglement, measured by concurrence. The interplay of the action of the time-dependent magnetic fields and the spin-coupling mechanism in the occurrence and evolution of quantum correlations is examined in detail.
